The Plymouth Barracuda was an American muscle car introduced by Chrysler’s Plymouth division in 1964. Based on the compact Valiant, it debuted with a distinctive fastback and large rear glass, beating the Ford Mustang to market by a few weeks. Early models offered modest engines, but by the late 1960s the Barracuda evolved into a true performance car. The 1970–1974 third generation featured bold styling and powerful V8 options, including the legendary Hemi. Despite its performance reputation, declining sales and rising insurance costs led to its discontinuation after 1974.
